Skipping Rock Brewery Beer Tap Handles : Industrial Design - CNC Milling

This project entails industrial design and fabrication of beer tap handles for Visit Skipping Rock Brewery in Staunton Virginia. The brewery is under construction and we have just begun the production on this project, so it may be a few weeks before images of a final product are in place here. We started off with a few different design comps we modeled and rendered in Fusion 360. The final design iteration is shown below bottom right image. The brand logo is very detailed which makes some of the text very small milling operations. Most of our CNC Milling work is at a larger scale which challenged us how to mill with .25mm end mills without breaking lots of them. So far the progress is promising. Originally we originally chose white oak for its light color and natural texture. We found the grain was too large for the small letters to stay together along with small edges being to rough. Maple which also has a light color, but less texture turned out to mill very well for small scale operations. We did our first few tests with Poplar because we have lots of scraps in the shop to muck up.
